DarkCast 112: GOTYs Part 4 - Overall Awards

The end of the year is here and it's time to discuss the Games of 2013. Here are our winners for the Overall Awards as voted on by Darkstation writers.

Best Overall Games of 2013

Best Game of 2013 from a Small Non-First-Party Studio

This category is for games made by independent or third-party studio with 50 or fewer employees.  The category is the first of two categories meant to replace “Best Third Party Game”, “Best Downloadable Game” and  ”Best Indie Game.”

Winner - Gone Home

Best Game of 2013 from a Large Non-First-Party Studio

This category is for games made by independent or third-party studio with more than 50 employees.  The category is the second of two categories meant to replace “Best Third Party Game”, “Best Downloadable Game” and  ”Best Indie Game.”

Winner (tie) - Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Bioshock Infinite

Most Disappointing Game of 2013

This category is for the game that let you down the most. This is not necessarily a bad game but one in which there is negative disparity between your anticipation and the actual game.

Winner - SimCity

Most Surprising Game  of 2013

This category is for the game that was unexpectedly good. This is not necessarily a great game but one in which there is a positive disparity between your anticipation and the actual game.

Winner - Tomb Raider

Best Cooperative Multiplayer of 2013

This category is for games that contain a multiplayer mode where two or more players work together to solve puzzles or fight against AI controlled enemies, otherwise known as PVE. This can but does not have to be a multiplayer only game.

Winner - Splinter Cell Blacklist

Best Competitive Multiplayer of 2013

This category is for games that have a multiplayer mode in which two or more players fight each other, otherwise known as PVP. This can but does not have to be a multiplayer only game.

Winner (tie) - Battlefield 4 and Dota 2

Best Single Player Experience of 2013

This category is for games that have a single player mode where one player tackles enemies and/or puzzles alone. These games may or may not have a multiplayer component.

Winner (tie) - BioShock Infinite, Gone Home and The Last of Us

Best Publisher of 2013

This category is for the companies that fund and/or own video game developers.

Winner - Sony

Best Developer of 2013

This category is for the companies that actually develop games. 

Winner (tie) - Starbreeze, Naughty Dog and Irrational Studios

Worst Game of 2013

This category is for the flat out worst game you played this year. It was terrible, you hated it and it’s the epitome of what’s wrong with games.

Winner (tie) - Grand Theft Auto V, SimCity and Aliens: Colonial Marines

Game of the Year 2012 Retconned

This category is like the Game of the Year but for last year. Now you can revisit your pick for 2012 and say if what you said remains or if another game really should have been your 2012 Game of the Year.

Winner - The Walking Dead

Best Game of 2013

This category is for the best game you played this year. It was fantastic, you loved it and it is what all games should strive to be like.
