Adam's Top 5 Games of 2012

I'll always remember 2012 as my initiation into the process of game design. Some very difficult games - Hotline Miami, Spelunky, Dark Souls, and more - really prompted me to look deeper than I've ever looked into a game before. And I realized that the games I enjoy most are often the ones with a smaller scope and stronger focus, and that those traits are often lost on the biggest, most expensive of the year. I'm certainly not snide toward the big guys, but indies dominated my brain, my hands, and my best games of the year.

Joel's Top 5 Games of 2012

This is probably my favorite writing assignment of the year. Looking back at my favorite gaming experiences over the past year. Although 2012 wasn’t the best year of this generation I would argue it might be the most diverse. This is the first time in recent memory that only one of the five games would I have predicted at the beginning of the year hitting my GOTY list.

Kyle's Top 5 Games of 2012

It's no coincidence that the first year I spent writing about video games was the first year I started asking myself what games were and what they should mean. Fortunately, this was also the year that developers seemed to know that enthusiasts needed something more than another Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed, and it gave me some of the best experiences I've ever had with the medium. The following five titles just happen to be my picks out of an incredibly unique year.

Jonathan’s Top 5 Games of 2012

2012 has been a fantastic year for games. The Witcher 2 (which would by on my list had it not been at the top of my list last year) was successfully ported to the 360. A new console and a handheld launched. Downloadable games reached a new benchmark. As did storytelling. Despite the rocky spots (from the Mass Effect 3 ending craziness to the issues plaguing THQ to an assortment of other things ) I think a lot of great strides have been made this year in the growth of game as an art, not just a medium of entertainment.

Brian's Top 5 Games of 2012

Once in a great while (every 12 months give or take), those of us who play games for a living ("Other people get paid for this!" yells my wife) come together to deliver a holy list of (A top 5) the GREATEST GAMES OF THE YEAR!!!!! (yeah, that works). The tablet has been laid at my feet... here is my list.

Allen's Top 5 Games of 2012

Another year, another contender for game of the year! Maybe it's just me but it felt like this year was a bit more subdued than previous years and with few exceptions, there weren't a whole lot of major AAA titles. That's not to say 2012 wasn't a good year for video games. Emotions ran high with the conclusion of the Mass Effect trilogy, a starry-eyed MMO didn't make it a full year without going free to play, video games proved once again that they have the capacity to make the player cry and some fresh new properties proved that even as we near the end of this console cycle, there is still so much more fun to be had.

Joseph's Top 5 Games of 2012

2012 has been a really interesting year for games. It feels like this year, more than any this generation has had the most disappointing triple A blockbuster titles. At the same time, we've had some really amazing surprises that have more than filled that void. I've played far more games of varying genres this year, and some on this list are ones that were far off my radar.
