This year for the PS2 has probably been the poorest showing for Sony since the release of the Playstation. It has been really a tough year, with quite a few disappointments and unfortunately too many "big" blockbuster type titles being pushed back until 2004. With that being said it wasn't a horrible year for the PS2 as they did have some titles that definitely deserve honorable mentions.

#3 Tony Hawk's Underground
Publisher: Activision | Developer: Neversoft | Genre: Extreme Sports |
When the Tony Hawk series made its debut in the gaming world on the PlayStation it took the gaming world by storm. The game became an instant classic and has now formulated in an ever popular high selling series. The series started declining over the past few editions but this trend was totally changed when Underground was released this holiday season.
Underground was the first in the series to actually put you into the game by allowing you to take place an in extensive career mode that gets you ready for the excellent online mode. The game has added plenty of new tweaks to spice up the gameplay, adding even more strategy to the game. This was a turn of the tides for the series and ended up being one of the best choices for your PS2. |

#2 Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
Publisher: SCEA | Developer: Insomniac Games | Genre: Platform |
Last year the Ratchet and Clank series started out by surprising millions with its great platforming elements that combined with solid action to create a pretty impressive title. Now one year later SCEA and Insomniac came back to bring us the sequel in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. The sequel has brought more weapons, more features, new story, and the same solid gameplay that was found in the original. Going Commando has taken all of the good in the original and improved upon it. Combine all of this with a game that already has a good following and you have a game that not only sells well but is an excellent choice for anyone looking for another Platformer for their PS2. |

#1 Jak II
Publisher: SCEA | Developer: Naughty Dog | Genre: Platform |
Jak II is by far the best made game of 2003 for the PS2 and for many reasons. Jak and Daxter (the first great platformer for the PS2), combined all of the necessary elements to becoming a great Platformer. Now in Naughty Dog's second time around they got it just right with the gameplay being as solid as ever. Jak 2 combines an interesting story with some of the best platforming gameplay to date. With that you get my PS2 game of the year! |
