Top 3 PlayStation 2 Games For 2004
I was one of many editors this year that really didn't think this year was going to be a very good one for the PS2. But boy was I wrong. I will be the first to admit that this year has been one of the best years for the PS2 and has given me the most trouble in selecting the top three games. But here are three great PS2 games, some of which could be the best PS2 game of all time.
| #3 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Publisher: Konami | Developer: KCEJ | Genre: Action | |
![]() | Before playing MGS3: Snake Eater, I was always a bit skeptical on how the game would play, given the dynamic nature of the jungle environment. But once again the developers behind the MGS series have come through with not only a brilliant storyline that has fueled the series for quite sometime, but it also contains the same old school style of stealth action that the series has thrived on. MGS3 really has revamped the genre of stealth action games by showing that you don't need all the cool gizmos to be a great stealth game, rather a solid storyline can still drive a game, and does exactly that with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. |
| #2 Sly 2: Band of Thieves Publisher: SCEA | Developer: Sucker Punch | Genre: Platform | |
![]() | Out of any game, no matter what platform, the most fun I have had with any video game this year was in Sly 2. It was by the most entertaining and memorable experience of the year. Creating a good sequel is always a challenge, but the guys over at Sucker Punch did it in incredible fashion. The game is four times as long and now you get to play as Murray and Bentley, adding a whole new aspect to the game. Along with that the game also manages to improve upon their cel shaded visuals, to create the best looking game of the year. |
| #1 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Publisher: Rockstar Games | Developer: Rockstar North | Genre: Action | |
![]() | Ok, although it may not be the hardest choice in the world, of course this year's PS2 game of the year is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I may have had more fun with Sly 2, but my overall feelings are that GTA: San Andreas is still the superior game. It has been a privilege to see how much the world of this series has grown over the years, and to see how the developers seem to find amazing ways to upgrade their games and to still make it fresh and enjoyable. San Andreas was just a gigantic game that showed once again open-ended gameplay at its best. |
