The Xbox Live Service has been around for a few years now, and for most of us our Xbox Communicator just hasn't been able to survive the journey along with us. Maybe it was the late night MechAssault battle that was your communicator's last stand, or maybe your dog ate it?

Whatever the case may be now is the time where you might be thinking about investing in a new headset. Well Logitech saw your need and went for it bringing you the Logitech Xbox Cordless Headset. So is this product worth the money or should we all take a different route? Read our review to find out!

Setup

I'll admit I am not one that likes using directions, call me a man's man, or just call me an idiot, either way I really don't see the use for them. Well this is a product that I had some difficulties figuring out at first, but once I opened my eyes it became quite simple. With the package you get a new little gizmo to plug into your Xbox which serves as your wireless point. Then you have the headset in which needs to be charged for a good or hour or two. Once you get that done charging it is as simple as clicking a little green button on the side of the communicator and then you're ready to go play some games on Xbox Live.

Play Testing

So how does the headset end up performing and how comfortable is the unit. Well this is one Logitech product that really doesn't have all the fine-tuning in the manner that you would expect. The games I tested this headset with were Halo 2, FIFA Soccer 2005 and Top Spin.

Let's start with the good parts of the unit shall we? Alright, this is an extremely well constructed unit with a very comfortable design. The product really has the sleek look that Logitech has been known for over their history. This is really probably the most comfortable and nicely made headset that is on the market today. The paint job is slick and the built quality is generally solid as can be, and there is really nothing to bad to complain about so far.

But then we get the actual usability of this product and that's when things really start to take a turn for the worse. Ok so this is a wireless headset and one problem I have experienced with these in the past is that the reception never seems to be all that great, and the same can be said about this headset. For some reason no matter how close you are to the controller, it still seems to have a lot of static which can become a bitter annoyance. Now of you of course can still hear the players on Live but it just has too much interference and not high enough quality of sound to be considered a top notch headset.

The second and final problems I have with this unit are the volume and mute controls, which are located on the headset itself. To start with this causes an issue as you cannot actually see with your eyes whether the mute is on or off. This is a terrible feature which causes you to have to ask people if they can hear you or not, and then keep track of whether you have the mute on or off. Don't ask me why you would put the mute button the unit because that is just a ridiculous spot for it. Not only that but you also have to search for the volume controls which are not all that greatly located either.

What this all boils down to is while playing all three of the games I tested this headset with, I had to let go of the controls and then mess with the volume and mute buttons, which just doesn't cut it for a product of this price.

Overall: 5.0

For the price of this unit, it's really hard to recommend this one, as it just doesn't have the makings of a great headset. It would really be nice to have a wireless headset, but this one just does not perform up to par. Unless you are in dire need of a wireless headset, the price is just too steep for a product such as this.
