NPD results came out for the last quiet month of the year. An interesting shuffle of older games, but nothing to really sink your teeth into.

Software

  1. NCAA Football 14
  2. Minecraft
  3. The Last of Us
  4. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
  5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  6. Far Cry 3
  7. Battlefield 3
  8. Injustice: Gods Among Us
  9. NBA 2K13
  10. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

It is worth noting that the version of Minecraft that nabbed the number 2 spot is the boxed version for the Xbox 360, since NPD doesn’t count digital sales. Far Cry 3 jumped back up into the list thanks to a brief sale at $20, and The Last Of Us did quite well for a platform-exclusive, but the rest of this list is business as usual.

Hardware

  1. Nindendo 3ds: 141k
  2. Xbox 360: around 107k
  3. Everything else: ????

Now that Microsoft can’t brag about being the top-selling console, we are getting a lot less verified numbers from official sources. Nintendo’s 3DS continues to clean up, with Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s incredible 4 million sales across the US and Europe spurring a lot of console sales. However, this isn’t complete cause for Nintendo to celebrate, as the 3DS still isn’t performing as well as the DS in the same timeframe, according to industry analyst Michael Pachter.

We should see a slight jump in software sales in August, with the deluge of new titles hitting as I post this, but hardware-wise, things will continue to be pretty slow until the new consoles hit in November.
