The end is near! No, not the end of the world, but rather the final chapter in the critically acclaimed Onimusha series. At a press conference in Tokyo last March, Capcom reveals the first details of Onimusha 3, which again seeks to thrill gamers with stunning graphics and engaging gameplay.
The storyline in Onimusha 3 is pretty bizarre. It features two time periods - 1582 where Akechi Samanosuke faces off with his arch enemy, Oda Nobunaga at the burning Honnoji temple, and 2004 where a peaceful French town suddenly comes under heavy assault of the Genma. And guess who's in town to fight off the onslaught of demons? A new hero who will eventually fight side by side with our beloved Samanosuke, Jacque Bran.
Hong Kong actor Takeshi Kaneshiro (Planet Love, Returner) is back in the title role as Samanosuke, who seeks to end the threat of Oda Nobunaga and the relentless Genma. But for the final chapter, another hero is called, who turned out none other than Jean Reno (The Professional, Ronin) lending his likeness to the French soldier Jacque Bran.
Details have been scarce as to how these two very different time period and heros will be accommodated, but the information gleamed from the official website suggests that Onimusha 3 will feature two different set of gameplay. Other than that, your guess is as good as ours.
Not only does the gameplay is improved, the graphics has also been further refined. As opposed to using pre-rendered backgrounds like in previous installments, the developers will use full polygonal background, which they argue would be best to showcase the true beauty of the Onimusha world. In keeping with the improvements, the CG is also given a tremendous boost. Just look at the development team, which includes GC movie Producer Mikitaka Kurasawa (Parasite Eve, Resident Evil Zero), CG movie Director Takashi Yamasaki (Returner) and none other than movie action Director Donnie Yen (Blade II, Shanghai Knights, Hero). The results will surely be outstanding.
As the release date approaches, we can be sure of more details from Capcom. In the meantime, enjoy the screenshots in the media section.
