Overview
I am one of those people that things never seem to work the first time around, and it takes me a couple try's to get things working correctly. Well I am here to tell you it took me one whole try to get the network adapter installed. The process is very simple you take out the bay in the back of your PS2 and then plug in the network adapter. It's truly that easy. Once you have it installed you place the network setup disc in the PS2 and put in your ISP information. I am a broadband user and I found it extremely easy, and once again it only took me one try. I put in my ISP information and was ready for online play.
On the Installation Disk there are two demo's and as well as a few preview movies. The demo's include Frequency, as well as Madden. The preview movies include ATV Offroad 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, 4, Tribes Aerial Assault, and a Special movie which I will leave for you to find out! I must say though that the all of these previews showed some great things to look forward to in the future.
Once you got everything set up, you are really good to go to play whatever game your heart desires. Sony did take a different approach to the whole online gaming situation from what the people over at Microsoft have done. Instead of doing a one time purchase, and set up fee, Sony has decided to let the publishers decide if they want to add a charge to the online play or not. Another downfall to the deal is that for every game you must have a separate account, luckily most games save your login name and password, you still have to remember each games login information, which is a downfall from having just one login name and password.
Here's a list of compatible titles, gathered from SCEA's website:
- auto modellista (Nov 2002)
- Frequency (Out Now)
- Madden NFL 2003 (Out Now)
- NFL Gameday 2003 (Out Now)
- SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals (Out Now)
- Twisted Metal: Black Online (Out Now)

The Network adapter runs for about $39.99 and with the purchase of the adapter, is a mail in rebate to get a copy of Twisted Metal Black Online. Right now the online library is a little smaller then what is hoped but it is definitely a good start with titles such as SOCOM, Madden, NFL 2K3, and many others to come. If that's not enough for you then don't buy the thing, but if your looking for a great online gaming experience then you should make sure to run out and buy the adapter right now.
