Overview
The storyline is fairly simple. You take the role of Polpo, a happy go lucky guy who manages a successful apartment called One Piece Mansion. The problem starts when a jealous businessman named Chocopape decides to kidnap your sister Puchica (don't you just adore Japanese names). In order to save your sis, you have to complete certain objectives that Chocopape sets, and defeat end of level bosses.
Gameplay
At its core, you manage the One Piece Mansion, raking up rent money and trying to keep your tenants happy. Well, that's easier said than done. Each tenant give out vibes, green being positive vibes, and red are negative vibes/stress. It's important to note which kind of vibe your tenant eminate, and their corresponding direction. Placing tenants with green vibes around stressed tenants will relieve the latter's stress, but at the expense of the former. So, it's important to support the happy tenants so that they won't be stressed out.
While that could appear to be a chore, wait till the evil tenants show up. These Syndicate 5 members take over a vacant apartment, and they'll cause havoc around your apartment by disturbing your tenants, stealing their stuff or worst of all, setting fires to their rooms. If you see these pesky tenants, quickly move your tenants that deal out stress around them to drive them out.
You can switch between the Manager mode and Security mode easily enough. The latter is used when you want to built new rooms, built elavators to connect the floors or move tenants around. But when the evil tenants cause any commotion, quickly switch to Security Mode and chase them back to their rooms.
The controls are fairly simple. There's the obligatory execute and cancel buttons, as well as a button to switch between modes. You have to built new rooms and move tenants in to rake in the money. You must also move older tenants around so that s/he won't be bored staying in the same room for a long time. These cost money, but in the long run when the satisfied tenants move out, you'll receive a hefty bonus.
Graphics
The graphics in One Piece Mansion are colourful and and very Japanese. It kinda reminds me of Puzzle Fighter. As the game centres around the apartment, there's not much background to look at. But furnitures in the various rooms look detailed enough, as well as the characters' facial expressions. If you love the comical look in puzzle games, then you can't find any fault with the graphics here.
Fun Factor
This is certainly one fun game. Imagine the chaos when you're keeping tabs on 15 floors of rooms, filled with different kinds of tenants and putting out fires in multiple places at the same time. The inclusion of only two gaming modes, Story and Endless (you built your apartment with no time limit or specific objective) might shorten the game's replay value.
Overall
Overall One Piece Mansion is an addictive puzzler. Its blend of fresh ideas (managing an apartment) with comical animation and fun music would really strike a note with puzzle fans. Try it out and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
