Overview
We always talk about how originality is a key for success in my book, as playing the same thing over and over again is just not a fun experience. And then there are times when I just wonder why some games are made, and we're reviewing one such game today Shrek SuperSlam for the Microsoft Xbox. So can the team over at Shaba Games create a winning game out of this popular movie series? Read our full review to find out!
Gameplay
So far Shrek has tried to really make a slam on the Xbox a few times, without much success. The games were never bad per se, but they have not given a great experience that have made Shrek fans really want to come back for more, and that is why I wonder why they are creating another Shrek game. With that being said, Shrek SuperSlam is out and hopes to wow you on the Xbox to make the fourth time the charm.
Since Shrek has been on the Xbox a few different times, we have seen him come in different forms. From party games to pure action titles, Shrek has had his fair share of variety in the type of games he has been in. To describe Shrek SuperSlam is a bit of a difficult task. I would say that Shrek Superslam is more of a "fighting" game, but then it has other elements in it as well. To start describing this game, let's just talk about the massive amount of playable characters, including Shrek himself and even the Donkey. You will have other characters to play as well, with the Gingerbread Man and Puss-in-Boots.
So what exactly is the premise of Shrek Superslam, and how does the game work? Well this is a good question, because when you look at this game, it can be hard to understand exactly what Shrek Superslam is. Well to describe this game I would draw towards Super Smash Brothers, and basically your whole goal is to get the most points. The premise is easy, and so is the gameplay. The developers of Shrek Superslam went for a super laid back approach to this game, and made very simple yet nicely intuitive. Every character has a very easy to pick up style, but you can also see that there are significant changes in the way each character plays.
Is Shrek Superslam deep you also might be wondering? And unfortunately this is where the game is found wanting. Sure it has your basic set of single player modes and offline multiplayer, but there is nothing online in this game, nor is there anything really overly new brought to the table. The single player is pretty much what you would expect and the main draw, which is the multiplayer, works very well too. With this being said, the game would have score higher had the developers put in online support or some more mini games.
In the end, Shrek Superslam is easy to pick up and play, and has all the basic makings of what you would expect from a party style game. It doesn't bring any unbelievable surprises, but instead just has a fun easy to play style that I found to make for a very enjoyable experience.
Graphics
Shrek Superslam was just a fun game to look at, with great visual style and a whole lot of color. I wouldn't say that Shrek Superslam is the best looking game on the market, but it does enough to really make for a solid looking game that fans of Shrek will appreciate. It may not be as good as what DreamWorks was able to do in the movies, but it does the job nonetheless.
Fun Factor
Shrek Superslam is one of those games that fans of party games are really going to enjoy. I was a fan of the Smash Brothers series, and I think that Shrek Superslam does a great job of keeping things fresh, with the good variety of characters and moves to perform. Shrek Superslam is a good game that has a good amount of modes to choose from. I had a group of people come over and play this game, and it is just a great game to sit back and enjoy.
Overall
Shrek Superslam is a good solid party game that I had a lot of fun playing throughout my review experience. This was one of those games that I didn't expect to be all that exciting, but after playing the game I have to say that Shrek Superslam is a game that is fun to play alone and with friends. If you enjoy party games, Shrek Superslam is a great game to go check out.
