Overview
In the recent years, we have seen the increase in the popularity of the sport of poker. And we saw a few unique poker titles come to the table in 2005 for the consoles, and now Sega has come out with their own gambling game for the Nintendo DS. Instead of just focusing on one unique game, Sega included other popular parlor games as well, and called it Sega Casino. So can you start feeling like you are in Vegas while playing on your DS? Read our full review to find out!
Gameplay
I have always wanted to see a Casino game done right. Most of the time when you think of a casino game, you just think of a compilation of casino type games. I have always wanted to see a game that fully captures the excitement of being in a casino, on a mobile handheld like the Nintendo DS? So what were the results?
Alright so let's get into Sega Casino. I will just start by saying I was hoping for great things with this game, but I was set back right away with the lack of games to play. In Sega Casino, you have four different games to start off with, and then you will have to unlock the rest of the available games. You start off with the typical classics, like Craps, Texas Holdem, Roulette, Blackjack, and Baccarat. You will be able to unlock a few more games to make the overall total to nine, but this is still not a whole lot of games.
All of the different games play well and really don't do anything wrong. But the big problem most will have with Sega Casino is that the games are not really that much different that the many free game on the Internet. Sure all of these games are very easy to play and work really nicely, but there is nothing that really will drive you to want to play Sega Casino over any of the freebies online.
The only real good thing that Sega Casino has going for it is the ability to play this game wirelessly with someone who does not own the game. This is a good idea and although this doesn't help the game in the sense that there still not that great of casino games, but it is nice to be able to play with other people that don't own the game. I have to say that in the end Sega Casino just doesn't bring anything exciting to the table, and therefore Sega Casino is just a disappointing effort.
Graphics
When you look at the visuals, you will find right away that Sega Casino is not what I would call anything overly impressive. Sega Casino just never attempts to do anything exciting with the games visuals, but instead keeps things very simplistic and very plain. I was shocked to see that Sega didn't try and do anything to spice up these games. Unfortunately if you remember in the gameplay section, I felt as though the visuals didn't do anything better than what we have seen on many free games around the Net.
Fun Factor
The thing about Sega Casino is that this is one of those games that sounded good on paper, but ended up being just another lazy compilation of overly simplistic parlor games. Sega could have done so many different things with this game making a more structured system that actually made things more interesting. Instead they just left this as a standard compilation that wasn't overly exciting.
Overall
Sega Casino ends up being a game that I just felt as though was rushed, and under developed. This is a game that doesn't really bring anything new to the genre. It unfortunately to me feels like a compilation of casino games found on the Internet for free. Sure some of the casino fans may want to try this game, but everyone else is better off passing this game up.
