[PS3] Evolution Studios' PS3 title MotorStorm Tops the Charts in Japan

Runcorn-based computer games developer Evolution Studios is celebrating international success today, as its MotorStorm title tops the Japanese PlayStation 3 Charts.

The games console - the latest in Sony's incredibly successful family of games machines - went on sale in Japan late last month. And Evolution Studios' thrilling, off-road racing game has proved the most one of the most successful game from the initial batch of launch titles - a stunning coup for the UK-based development team.

MotorStorm's savage off-road racing throws players into a frighteningly realistic series of races spread across Monument Valley - a breathtakingly hostile environment above, below and over the American desert. Races are no-holds-barred jostle-'em-up as players battle for racing lines, negotiate heart-stopping jumps and discover secret shortcuts in wheel-to-wheel races which redefine the word 'carnage'. No two races are the same as courses are dynamically churned and deformed. The game offers the most free-form racing experience ever delivered, and a showcase for the processing power of Sony's new hardware.

MotorStorm has been attracting scores of worldwide press attention, and the game's rapid ascent to the top of the charts confirms that the public as well as press have fallen head-over-heels in love with its muddy charms.

"It's a real coup for Evolution," says Martin Kenwright, CEO, Evolution Studios. "Developing MotorStorm has certainly not been easy - but the team here really delivered. Evolution has a reputation for delivering high quality racing titles, but we really needed to up the ante with Sony's new hardware. We're delighted that the public has agreed with the press, and made MotorStorm the current Japanese number one PlayStation 3 title. We can't wait to see how it performs throughout the rest of the world."

MotorStorm is on sale in Japan for PlayStation 3 now. Release dates for America and Europe will be confirmed shortly.

[WII] Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy Chronicles Series for Nintendo Revolution

Square Enix Co., Ltd. today announced plans for the FINAL FANTASY Crystal Chronicles series to be developed for the Revolution, Nintendo's next-generation console currently in development.

The Revolution's promise of seamless interactive entertainment provided by the built in Wi-Fi system caught Square Enix's attention. The company decided to join the Revolution with FINAL FANTASY Crystal Chronicles, which was originally released on Nintendo's GameCube by Game Designers Studio, Inc, an affiliate of Square Enix.

"We would like to strongly support Nintendo's next-generation networking plans," said Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix. "The Revolution may embody a new platform beyond a portable or console, which makes possible a new structure in the network gaming system, changing the ways communities are built and supported. This is the kind of direction we've envisioned, and we will challenge ourselves to provide immersive interactive content in response to what Nintendo offers."

[WII] Nintendo Announces Play Control System for Next Gen Console

Adults can decide what flexibility they'll allow younger players to have.

Nintendo of America today announces it will include a play control system in its next home video game system, code-named Revolution, coming in 2006.

By using a password-controlled setting, adults can decide what flexibility they'll allow younger players to have in playing video games rated E (Everyone), E10+ (Everyone 10 and Older), T (Teen) or M (Mature). The system also ensures that dedicated adult gamers can opt to play without limitations.

How does it work? The actual game software will contain a code indicating the rating, which will activate the control system to remain locked or unlocked. The feature will be included in every Revolution console worldwide.

"Even though many Nintendo games are rated E, E10+ or T, we believe this kind of feature should be included in the hardware. It's the right thing to do," explains Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Game ratings are on the front and back of every game package, so families can easily make a decision about whether a game is right for them."

Game ratings are determined by a consensus of at least three specially trained raters reporting to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. ESRB raters are of various ages and backgrounds, and to ensure their objectivity, are not permitted to have any ties to the computer and video game industry. The rating system, in place since 1994, is frequently cited as an example for other industries to follow.

"Nintendo has added an important tool for families in Washington state and around the world," said Gov. Chris Gregoire. "This new option gives parents more information and more control over what video games their kids play and at what age."

Nintendo's next console will usher in a new era of video gaming. It will feature a controller designed to be used with either one hand or two, a first in the video game industry. The position and motion of the controller itself dictates the action on the television screen. A second, plug-in expansion gives hard-core gamers additional control for more in-depth game play.

Revolution will play both new game discs, as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. It also will have access to 20 years of fan-favorite games, including those from the Nintendo 64, Super NES and NES eras.

[WII] [E306] Wii Sports

Developer: Nintendo
Genre: Sports

Key Informatio

Tennis (1-4 players): Players grab the controller like a racket and swing – the game will register forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don't worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position.

Baseball (1-2 players): Grip the controller like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park in a home run derby. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two-player game, one player pitches and the other bats.

Golf (1 player): Step up to the tee, hold the controller like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the farther the ball will fly, so be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.

Additional games may be added to the Wii Sports group.

[WII] [E306] Elebits

Konami Digital Entertainment shows first title specifically tailored to Nintendo's Next Generation platform. An original action title for Wii, Elebits lets players use the unique Wii controller to search for and capture the small, mischievous creatures of the title.

Mysterious and tiny creatures, the titular Elebits have been the source of the world's power for the past 10,000 years. In the game world, there are no such things as gas, coal, or nuclear power. Instead, there are many different breeds of Elebits, each with their own unique look and personality. While humans and Elebits have always lived in harmony, these friendly beings love to cause trouble, and it's up to players to track them down and put an end to their mischief.

Taking advantage of the unique functionality of the Wii controller, Elebits allows players to interact with their environment in all-new ways as they search for the power-generating creatures. Using a futuristic device, players can push, pull, lift and throw anything they come across to discover secret hiding places and obstruct escape paths for the Elebits. Players can also devise their own strategy to round up the stray Elebits, using stealth to sneak up on them or creating noise to scare them out of concealed areas. As players capture Elebits and harness their power-generating abilities, numerous options and additional opportunities unfold to find even more Elebits in the ever-changing environment.
