Mark's Top 5 Games of 2018

Although it didn’t quite hit as many high notes as 2017, this year’s standouts were as awesome as they come. Maybe it was just the luck of the draw, but so many of the smaller/indie games I reviewed this past year were disappointingly derivative. That said, there were quite a few mid-level games from established developers that impressed me.

2017 was such a momentous year for gaming that I was already primed to believe 2018 couldn’t outdo it. Well, it ended up being true. 2018 wasn’t as strong, but it actually came pretty close. Although there weren’t as many big, new titles for me, my top five games of 2018 have made me unbelievably happy.

While people love to say it every single year, 2018 really has been an incredible year for games. As we near the end of the console cycle for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, studios and publishers have been ratcheting up production of AAA games, bringing us more big-budget games with each passing month than anyone could possibly hope to play.

I was not ready for the bombardment of masterpieces to come our way this year. 2018 has been a year to remember for game releases, with many of these titles I’m going to mention now being placed in my top games of all time. I am so impressed and so happy with how far the creative industry has come, and I can’t wait to continue to be a part of it as we move forward in the coming years.
