Wow. What a year. 2015 has been amazing, emotional year. It's given us great, touching experiences like Life is Strange and The Beginner's Guide, but in it we've also seen bombastic AAA titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Witcher 3, Just Cause 3, and Batman: Arkham Knight. It's simply a wonderful time to be a gamer and to be able to partake in all the amazing titles so many incredible peoples have created. Which made this year's list uncommonly difficult to trim down. But I think if you were only able to play 5 games this year, it would be these.

2015 has been the best year for gaming since the launch of the current generation titles. This year our shiny new consoles finally started to get some legs under them and showed games a glimpse of their true power. There are so many great games to chose from but these are my top 5 games of the year.

I went into 2015 with the longest list of anticipated games I can remember. With so many games delayed from 2014 and the prospect of new entries in some of my favorite series, 2015 had the potential to be one of the best years for gaming. Along with new entries in respected franchises like Metal Gear and Fallout, there was a surprising amount of top shelf indie games like Undertale and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture released as well. Even with games like Uncharted 4 and Persona 5 being delayed until next year, I can confidently say that 2015 will be remembered as one of gaming's strongest.

What does one say to end a year? 2015 was, like the years before it, simply just a year, and trying to sum up a year’s worth of experiences into a single paragraph always comes off as wanting for words. It, like others, was a year of tough choices, as my budget determined both when and what I was able to play. Gone are the years of throwing caution to the wind on a questionable choice; now everything is carefully measured out, and sometimes it feels like the only chances I take in my gaming life are done through reviews, where the question can shift from price to experience. Regardless, judging by the list below, the time I did spend gaming didn’t turn out to badly. I mean, I once again played the GOTY, and a I got a new Batman game to boot. So 2015, you were alright.

Although we can have a discussion about there being far too many reboots, sequels, and spinoffs, 2015 was a banner year for big-budget AAA-tentpole games. This year, many of the big games didn't just have huge production budgets and elaborate marketing campaigns, but solid content and gameplay, too. It's not that the indie scene languished in 2015, but the major players really delivered in an exciting way.
