2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

This is exactly what I wanted from 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. It’s a fully featured game of FIFA that has been branded beautifully for the World Cup. If you can’t wait for June for the World Cup then I’d highly recommend checking out this game, it’s really well done.

FIFA 14

This is the essence of FIFA 14 – a great package but a hefty sidestep, rather than a leap, as some of its predecessors were. The menus are fantastically designed, accessible and simple, which isn’t a mean feat considering the sheer amount of different modes and ways to play, and make it seem a shinier, fresher product than it is. I suspect that this review is rather pointless, and you already know whether you want FIFA 14 or not, but I can only really recommend if you play a lot of multiplayer, as I do, or are truly desperate for updated rosters. Otherwise, you might as well wait a month or two and see if EA’s next-gen efforts carry the substantial gameplay upgrades this version lacks.

NHL 14

NHL 14 is a great game of hockey, and technically speaking its one of the best playing sports games on the market today. Sadly its foray into the new career mode, Live the Life, was extremely disappointing, and left me wanting more out of this year’s game. So if you’re looking for some great hockey this is a good choice, but there is still work to be done to improve the modes within it.

Madden NFL 25

There was a clear focus on smoothing out the rough edges and making the best playing Madden of this generation. This focus has been sorely missing from the last couple of games and that allows Madden NFL 25 to leave this generation on a high note.

FIFA Soccer 13

There isn’t a better sports title than FIFA 13 out right now, and I include any and all varieties of sports in that claim. There isn’t a single release out there that has the depth, variety and longevity to match it. Whilst the general opinion is that Pro Evo Soccer 13 was a return to form for the flagging Konami franchise, EA have done more than enough with FIFA 13 to ensure that I, and all the other FIFA players who jumped ship when Pro Evo took a nosedive, don’t feel the need to switch allegiances again.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is a good game of golf. The new controls will freshen things up a bit and of course there are modes up the wazoo to try out. Kinect support is included but after a few holes probably won’t get much in terms of playtime. I can’t say it’s an easy buy recommendation to make but if you have missed a few years of Tiger Woods games then this one is a good one to get back into.

Fight Night Champion

We are finally beginning to see innovation within sports video games and Fight Night Champion truly is step forward not only for boxing but sports video games in general. It not only proves that stories can be an integral part of a sports video game but can be one of it’s best. Fight Night Champion is the best boxing game out and in the conversation of best sports game of this generation.
