Arcade Basketball

NBA Playgrounds

NBA Playgrounds does a solid job of filling the void left by the NBA Street and NBA Jam series. There is a deep roster of players, and the game's cartoonish visuals look great, but the bare-bones online play and frustrating gameplay mechanics sometimes make the game feel more like a chore rather than an enjoyable experience.

NBA Jam: On Fire Edition

Though battling the AI is fun, it’s centered so heavily around playing with people, comparing scores and just having an arcade-style experience from the comfort of your living room that they finally seem to understand it- and if they can fix some niggling issues and get online working right, this game runs very close to perfect.

NBA Ballers

NBA Ballers does a great job of doing everything above average and beyond. Comparing Ballers with Street is a difficult task, which I have yet to come with a pure conclusion. The lack of online mode does hold the game back from being perfect, but all in all you are looking at a premier arcade basketball title.

NBA Jam

NBA Jam fails to recapture the glory that previous versions had brought the gaming world. Although it was nice to see Acclaim bring back the series, and hopefully they can improve upon this version and come out with a better one next year. Until then if you are having cravings for some NBA Jam action then you might want to get this one. If not, it is worth the rental.
