MLB The Show 18 Review

This might sound odd, but I love reviewing sports games. I really do. I’ve been doing it for over a decade and it’s an annual check in to see how some of my favorite video game franchises are doing. With the start of spring, it means it’s time to check out and review the latest baseball game from Sony San Diego, MLB The Show 18. In my review of MLB The Show 17 last year, I mentioned that I felt the franchise was beginning to feel a little long in the tooth. So, were there big changes in this year’s game?

MLB The Show 17 Review

MLB The Show 17 is still a great game of baseball but one that with each season seems less and less impressive compared to other sports games available. With a lack of competition, it's hard to not recommend. But with each year I'm still wanting to see the team at Sony San Diego push the envelope even if there isn't any competition to force their hand.

Out of the Park Baseball 17

My time with Out of the Park Baseball 17 was like a trip to the ballpark, except when I shouted that the pitcher should be taken out, somebody listened, and that was a great feeling.

MLB 15: The Show

It’s not a great option for those that already invested in MLB 14: The Show, in fact I probably wouldn't recommend the upgrade. However if you’re new to the PS4 and want to enjoy a little of America’s past time this is one of the best sports games available on the PS4 today.

MLB 14: The Show

Even with MLB 14: The Show not adding a ton it still remains one of the best sports games on the market today. I truly cannot wait to see what Sony will do with this franchise on the Playstation 4. Until then we still have a great game of baseball to play on the Playstation 3.

MLB 13: The Show

MLB 13: The Show is admittedly a small step forward. It has cleaned up some of the rougher edges in both the Franchise and the Road to the Show mode while maintaining its near-perfect on the field action. What else can I say, MLB 13: The Show remains one of the pinnacle sports franchises in the business today.

MLB 12: The Show

Last year I said that MLB 11 wasn’t a monumental step forward. I would say that MLB 12 is only a half-step forward for the series. Sure the competition within the genre is weak but that is still no excuse to leave much unchanged from last year’s version. MLB 12: The Show is a fantastic game of baseball there just isn’t enough new to make it an outright purchase recommendation.

Major League Baseball 2K10

This is not a perfect outing but dang is it a big improvement over last year’s outing and if your looking at this as a potential option I would say rent it first and make sure the style fits your needs as the game has plenty of content to take you outside of a rental period.

Major League Baseball 2K8

It’s a shame to see MLB 2K8 struggle to the magnitude it did in this version. You could see the developers had high hopes for a lot of the new functionality of the game, but when it is all said and done, everything doesn’t gel together all that well. The game is still playable, and enjoyable, just don’t expect it to be a perfect package.

MVP Baseball

MVP Baseball is not a great game, but it is a good game that has a few problems that if ironed out we would really be talking about a great game. Nonetheless if you are a fan of the game of baseball and can deal with some slight issues that this game has then you are going to be able to enjoy MVP Baseball.

MLB

MLB 2006 is not perfect, but it’s a darn good baseball game. The career mode is a great addition to the series and the gameplay is definitely picking up some steam. No longer is 989 trailing in the baseball race as all of these games are really neck-to-neck this year. But let me tell you, if you’re in the market for a great career mode, MLB 2006 is the way to go!

MLB 2005

Now you have a game that is solid in all aspects and that next year truly has the potential to play with the big boy’s. If I was a betting man, I would definitely put some money on the fact that this time next year MLB 2006 will be a top contender for the best baseball games on the market. As for MLB 2005, if you are in need of a baseball game with a solid franchise and online mode, then MLB 2005 would be a nice pick for you.

All-Star Baseball 2005

I was kind of disappointed with ASB 05, not because it’s a bad game, but because it seems as though we are in the same spot as we were last year, which is never a compliment to a game. If you have the 2004 version of ASB just stick with it, otherwise I would consider ASB 05 a great rental.

MVP Baseball 2005

The game is an excellent baseball simulation that will keep you occupied for quite a bit. It is unfortunate that this is the last year for the series as it would have been really interesting to see what the series could do in the next few years. With that being said if you’re looking for a baseball game this year, MVP Baseball 2005 would be a great choice.
