Madden NFL 18 Review
Stories in sports games. We’ve been talking about the idea for over a decade and it’s just in the last couple of years we’ve seen the two big sports developers (EA & 2K) start investing in it. Last year both FIFA (from EA) and NBA 2K (from 2K Sports) made stories a huge pillar in their annual releases. This year, EA Sports is following up the success of Alex Hunter in “The Journey” with Longshot, a new story mode in Madden NFL 18.
Bottom line, FIFA 16 is not a huge step forward for the franchise. The play on the pitch continues to get better and better and the refinements this year are all welcome. I especially was impressed with the overall flow of a match. It continues to get closer to feeling like the real thing while still being one of the most enjoyable sports games on the market.
NCAA Football 14
NCAA Football 14 feels like a great culmination of all the NCAA Football titles this generation. The new engine fixes a lot of the weird problems that occurred in the past few games and allows the running game to take center stage. I for one really enjoyed my time with NCAA Football 14 and find it to be a great swan song for this franchise on this generation of consoles. It makes me even more excited for what's to come from this franchise next year with new hardware behind it.
NCAA Football 12
There is no doubt that NCAA Football 12 is a great game of college football. What it isn’t however is a huge upgrade from last years game. If your looking for a new feel to the Road to Glory mode then this is definitely one you want to check out. Otherwise there isn’t enough new here to make this a must purchase.
Madden NFL 11
This year I think the storyboard ideas for this year’s game sounded great and some of them turned out to be quite solid additions. However I really feel like as great of a game of football Madden NFL 11 is, they missed some of the core competencies that has kept this a great game of football for all these years. Madden NFL 11 is a great game of football, the best of the series so far, but its not without a few minor draw backs.
NCAA Football 08
With all the things said and done, there is however still a lot of room for the franchise to grow. It has done a great job of moving in the right direction in this game, but you still feel it could have been much more in the future. However if you’re a fan of the series and need your college football fix for the year, this game is a great option for you.
All-Pro Football 2K8
There is no denying that even with its flaws, All-Pro Football 2K8 is a good solid football title that has some really interesting concepts. For the first time without the NFL license, there were some good ideas but I do feel there is a long way to go for the franchise to be able to truly compete once again. However if you have been counting the days since the last NFL 2K title then this is still a game worth checking out.
NCAA Football 06
NCAA Football 06 is a great game, and since it is the only college football game, it is definitely a great purchase for you. The game plays much better then last year’s game, and overall have a great look and feel to it that most people are just going to love. If you have the 2005 version and are wondering whether to upgrade, I would say the gameplay improvements are enough to warrant such an upgrade.
World Tour Soccer 2005
Let’s hope that 989 Sports does some strong developing for the 2006 version so we can see this title compete for the top soccer titles. If you’re wondering if you should purchase World Tour Soccer 2005 I would have to give you the thumbs down and say that right now there are just better soccer titles out there to choose from.
NFL Gameday 2004
Sometimes I just find that it’s too bad that 989 Sports can’t bring out a top notch football title. They have the potential sitting right there, they just have not been able to put all the pieces together. NFL Gameday 2004 wouldn’t be my first pick for the year, but I would say that it would make good for a rental, to give the online mode a whirl.
