Madden NFL 18 Review
Stories in sports games. We’ve been talking about the idea for over a decade and it’s just in the last couple of years we’ve seen the two big sports developers (EA & 2K) start investing in it. Last year both FIFA (from EA) and NBA 2K (from 2K Sports) made stories a huge pillar in their annual releases. This year, EA Sports is following up the success of Alex Hunter in “The Journey” with Longshot, a new story mode in Madden NFL 18.
Madden NFL 11
This year I think the storyboard ideas for this year’s game sounded great and some of them turned out to be quite solid additions. However I really feel like as great of a game of football Madden NFL 11 is, they missed some of the core competencies that has kept this a great game of football for all these years. Madden NFL 11 is a great game of football, the best of the series so far, but its not without a few minor draw backs.
All-Pro Football 2K8
There is no denying that even with its flaws, All-Pro Football 2K8 is a good solid football title that has some really interesting concepts. For the first time without the NFL license, there were some good ideas but I do feel there is a long way to go for the franchise to be able to truly compete once again. However if you have been counting the days since the last NFL 2K title then this is still a game worth checking out.
NFL Street 2
It’s unfortunate that the game only had eleven months of development time, because it really had the ability to be a great game. Although NFL Street 2 may not be all that much different from the original, for those of you who have yet to jump on the band wagon or are looking for the Xbox Live support, NFL Street 2 will be a good purchase for you.
NFL Blitz Pro
NFL Blitz Pro shows the road that it looks like Midway is going to take for the next few years, and you can see potential written all over it, but this years just isn’t all there. Unless you’re a big fan of the series it’s probably a good idea to wait until next year and stick with what you have.
NFL Gameday 2003
This time last year I truthfully thought the Gameday series was at an end, but 989 Sports proved me wrong and came back with a much improved football game. Although it is not Madden, or 2K3 level, it’s closed the gap and I would not be surprised if Gameday creeps up next year and becomes a top football game, but this year it’s just not quite there.
NFL Fever 2003
NFL Fever 2003 is a step ahead of last year’s version with the addition of Xbox Live support, but it still doesn’t offer as much depth as Madden and 2K3. There are still some computer A.I. flaws, which does hurt the game’s overall performance, but all in all this is still a pretty good football game.
