NHL 14 is a great game of hockey, and technically speaking its one of the best playing sports games on the market today. Sadly its foray into the new career mode, Live the Life, was extremely disappointing, and left me wanting more out of this year’s game. So if you’re looking for some great hockey this is a good choice, but there is still work to be done to improve the modes within it.
There is no disputing that NHL 13 is a fantastic game of hockey. For me though it was missing that big new feature that would make it feel significantly different from last years outing. And as good as the new skating feels and the new modes are, they aren’t enough to keep this game on the same high pedestal of NHL 12.
I think the last hockey game I enjoyed this much was back on the Nintendo with Blades of Steel one of my favorite sports titles. NHL 09 is really all of the ideas from past games finally put into a complete package. If you have sat a few years out on the franchise or even if your a regular NHL fan, NHL 09 is a game that all sports fans need to check out.
NHL 08 is by far one of the more impressive NHL titles in the past few years. EA really hasn’t added a major feature this year, but it’s the way the hockey looks and feels that really separates this game from the rest of the pack. NHL 08 is one of those games that manages to put everything together in one complete package, and NHL 08 is really a complete hockey package.
In the end, NHL 2K8 is not a perfect game, as there are still room for improvements in the graphics department. However, as a package, the game excels, with solid gameplay, deep modes and everything you would want from a hockey game. If you’re a hockey buff and like simulation hockey, this is the game for you.
As much as the gameplay feels smooth, the depth is there, the visuals are good, but to make this game worth a purchase this game just doesn’t feel like it has enough good to make it worth even the less expensive $29.99 price tag. If you really want a hockey game, I would say that this is only good for a roster update, and fans who want new should probably look towards the new consoles.
NHL Hitz 20-02
Whether you’re a fan of hockey or not, you absolutely must play NHL Hitz. The multiplayer mode (up yo six players with a multi-tap!) will keep you busy for many, many months to come, and when your friends aren’t around, the Championship, Franchise, Hockey Shop, Skills and Custom Player modes will make sleep look trivial, and every moment with Hitz the most exciting part of your day. Let’s hope a Game Boy Advance version isn’t too far away.
Overall NHL 2001 is the most visually impressive hockey game ever to be released, and is also one of the most customizable hockey games ever. But other than that, this game is pretty much just like most other hockey games. The real breakthrough here is the graphics. You should buy this game if you like hockey, sports or eye candy. You should, however, not buy this game if you hate hockey or don’t like the simple gameplay this game offers.
