Call of Duty: Ghosts

Everything about Call of Duty: Ghosts is solid, but does nothing from a narrative or gameplay standpoint to move the franchise forward. I'm sure the game will sell gangbusters again but for me the franchise is going to need to take bolder steps in future releases to maintain its firm lead on the rest of the industry.

Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3 was a really late game for this year but maybe it’s better that way as it has nothing to compete against and gives everyone the chance to see this great game for themselves. This is a nice way to wrap up a questionable year in gaming and Far Cry 3 actually stands out as one of the best games of this year.

Homefront

First let me say that I hope that Kaos continues to develop more Homefront titles the years ahead. Homefront is one of the best new franchises in the past few years and if you have any connection with first person shooters this is a game you should check out. It is not without some minor freshman bumps, but the overall package is one of the more compelling so far in 2011.

BioShock

PS3 users get the same great experience that 360 users did last holiday season, and that is as good of an achievement as anyone could have expected. I have to recommend this game to anyone with a PS3 who did not play the game before or want to pick it up again.

Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2 may be the surprise game of the holiday season. Will it sell, that is a different question. Should you pick it up? I would say absolutely, there are a few great shooters out this holiday and I truly believe Far Cry 2 is up there with the likes of Call of Duty: World at War and Gears of War 2. Far Cry 2 may not be the game everyone is talking about, but they should be.

Army of Two

Had there been no online co-op, then there would be no reason to even think about playing this game. However EA manages to make the online co-op so nicely built that it makes for a fantastic experience. If you like co-op, and don’t mind not having a single player, Army of Two for the PS3 is a great game that is worth checking out.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4 is easily one of the best games of 2007, and is definitely the best FPS we have seen in a long time. The new setting brings with it a great new feel, and is a welcome change to the barrage of WWII shooters that have cluttered the market. A must buy for any FPS fan, and a game that will be very hard to put down.

TimeShift

I think it is going to be tough for big FPS fans to pass up other big blockbuster games for Timeshift. But I would recommend if you want a bit of a change up from your typical FPS, Timeshift isn’t a bad shooter. Overall a good game, but not something that is going to make it out of the shadows of the other big blockbusters on the market, even if it can control time.
