A Fisherman's Tale Review

Nagging control issues aside, A Fisherman’s Tale is a charming PlayStation VR game that I found to be a total joy to experience - the same joy I felt playing Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. As far as first-person virtual reality experiences go, this makes the medium so worthwhile.

Beat Saber Review

Beat Saber comes at the end of a really important year for the PSVR, with games like Tetris Effect, Moss, and Astro Bot Rescue Mission giving renewed life to the two-year old device. These games — but especially Beat Saber — are the best evidence for VR being more than a promising but ultimately niche technology.

Red Matter Review

In space, comrade, no one can hear your praise the Motherland. Vertical Robot makes its debut on the PlayStation VR with Red Matter, an awesome first-person adventure game about wandering through a moon base left abandoned by its crew. With its evocative environmental storytelling and chilling atmosphere, Red Matter comes off as the beautiful love child between BioShock and Singularity.

ASTRO BOT: Rescue Mission Review

Cute robots, great music, and fantastic throwback gameplay brought out my inner child who laughed, and laughed, and laughed as the Bots dance, the bosses stumble, and Captain Astro emotes. Gamers of any age group will find something to love about Rescue Mission.

Downward Spiral: Horus Station Review

Downward Spiral: Horus Station is an atmospheric game that feels like the video game equivalent of Aram Khachaturian’s exceptionally melancholic Adagio from the Gayane Ballet Suite used during the Discovery montage from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I never knew exploring and interacting with derelict space vessel in VR was my jam - and it totally is now.

Detached Review

I couldn’t be more disappointed with Detached if I tried. For the first forty minutes or so, I thought it had nowhere to go but up. I even put together a Spotify playlist from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey for background music to maximize the effect being a lonely astronaut charged with getting things back in working order. Then to spend the next half hour flying around in search of batteries to turn on computers made me think that the developers ran out of ideas.

Crisis on the Planet of the Apes VR Review

What makes virtual reality such a compelling medium is its ability to put you in someone else’s shoes and see the world through their eyes. The beginning sequence in Crisis on the Planet of the Apes does a really good job of pulling the player out of their comfortable living room and into a nightmare world where they, cast as an ape that has gained intelligence, are viewed with intense hatred and disgust.

Siegecraft Commander Review

Unfortunately, unless you happen to have those real-life friends that want to play something really different and are willing to buy Siegecraft Commander with you, the rest of this title isn't something I can recommend.
