The Walking Dead: The Final Season - Episode 2 Review
This is surprisingly more difficult to write than it was supposed to be. When I received the review code for the second episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season at the beginning of last week, there were still two more episodes left, and everyone working at Telltale Games still worked there. Fast forward to one week later, and we find massive layoffs at Telltale Games, The Final Season pulled from digital storefronts, and no end in sight for Clementine.
Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 5 Review
It’s been a long 2 months. With the entirety of Batman: The Enemy Within leading up to this point, and the end of Episode 4 making a promise that The Joker, come hell or high water, was close, the wait for Episode 5, titled Same Stitch, has been tough. I’ve heard it said though, that the best things are worth waiting for, and while it didn’t necessarily work out for Aaron Burr, I kind of had no choice but to wait for it.
Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 4 Review
Just when I think Telltale has run out of places to go, and that I’ve finally figured out the hook to their plans with John Doe and his eventual transformation into full-fledged Joker-dom, they pull Crazy Ivan and give me a gift like Episode 4. Titled What Ails You, this episode is less a set-up of the finale then a stack of C4 primed to take out every story thread that’s been built up so far.
Minecraft Story Mode Season 2: Episode 5 - Above and Beyond Review
Not only has the story of Jesse and his friends completely shattered what minor expectations there were, but it has worked its way up near the top of my Telltale list. Season 2’s final episode, Above and Beyond, is a fantastic end to a downright fun series, and I am actually sad to see this one end.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Episode 4 - Who Needs You Review
Penultimate episodes, when executed well, can be the unsung heroes of an inconsistent season. Their job is to lead into the season finale, and manage to keep the excitement high yet manageable, all without prematurely ending all the individual story threads that the season was busy weaving together.
Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 2 Review
Have I mentioned that Batman: The Enemy Within may be the best thing Telltale has put out since the 1st season of The Walking Dead? It’s a little early to outright make that claim, with only the second episode behind us, but it’s clear that the upending to the Batman mythos they started with the first season is a train they have no intention of slowing down. And, holy crap, this is one hell of a ride.
Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2: Episode 3 - Jailhouse Block Review
Damn, Minecraft: Story Mode goes places. Not satisfied with just opening flaming holes in the ground and attacking small towns with giant, possessed stone statues, Episode 3, perfectly titled “Jailhouse Block,” takes us all the way down to the bedrock, essentially the bottom of the Minecraft world, and then we go lower.
Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2: Episode 2 - Giant Consequences Review
Episode 2 proved excellent all the way around. I really appreciated the points they chose to hit, the themes of friendship and change, as well as the fantastic trip the Admin takes the group on. I never thought that these kinds of stories would be possible with Minecraft as the background, but it just proves to show that a good story can take place anywhere. Even an exploding Heckmouth.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Episode 2 - Under Pressure Review
Hopefully, Under Pressure is just a momentary blip in a great series rather than a signal of rocky storytelling to come. Given their reign as the all around favorites of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would be a shame for other stories featuring this dynamic cast to simply be regulated to “just ok” status.
The Walking Dead A New Frontier - Episode 4: Thicker Than Water
Thicker Than Water was a good episode in a season that ranks only slightly below the original, and the only thing left for the team now is to wrap up what they started. Will Javier and co. survive? Will Richmond? We’ll just have to wait to find out.
The Walking Dead A New Frontier - Episode 3: Above the Law
Where the next episode goes from here is anyone’s guess, but there is absolutely a showdown brewing in Richmond, and misery is sure to be included in the aftermath. Rather than looking forward to any kind of conclusion to the main plot, the smaller subplots revolving around family are what have kept me thinking about the future of the season. I just hope that, given how quick the tide can come in during the closing episodes, that this family is strong enough to endure what comes.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Parts 1 and 2 Review
Given where Episode 2 leaves us, I am truly looking forward to see where A New Frontier goes. Javier is a charming character with a deep backstory, and they way his family is introduced throughout the past and present leads to an immediate investment in his future. Add in some shady actions on Clementine’s part, as well as the overwhelming desire to keep her around, and I feel that TWD is back on the right track. Telltale continues to impress.
Batman Episode 5: City of Light
Telltale has shown not only a clear understanding of what makes Batman the Caped Crusader, but a deft hand at shifting the details around so that the suit you’re picturing at the beginning is not the same one you end up with at the end. Batman is, without a doubt, the best and most consistent outing for Telltale yet.
Batman Episode 4: Guardian of Gotham Review
Telltale’s creative use of Batlore was on full display with their low key use of his most famous villain, and they created an episode that managed to stand on its own while also leaving a jumping off point for the season finale. Guardian of Gotham delivers on all fronts.
