WWE 2K14 is an amazing wrestling game with very little holding it back. The WWE has a lot of history to dive in to and it only makes me excited to see what the next, fully headed under 2K, WWE game will look like. With a fantastic roster and just greater polish overall, WWE 2K14 is a great addition into the WWE video game franchise and is a must own for any wrestling fan.
WWE All-Stars is a good game of arcade wrestling. The gameplay mechanics could use some tweaks to lean more towards an easy pick up and play style wresting game. With that being said if your growing tired of the Smackdown vs. Raw series or haven’t played a wrestling game in the last five years, this would be a good place to start.
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 doesn’t feel like a “new” game but more of a half step forward from last years game. Like many fans of wrestling I am waiting for that next thing that really pushes these games forward to a new level. WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 is an incremental improvement that provides some solid new content but nothing earth shattering.
TNA iMPACT! is a very successful first outing for Midway, its not perfect, and it may not be able to compete with WWE on its first outing, but for its first outing it does so many things right that if your a fan of wrestling games I would still recommend this game even with its short comings.
WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007
In the end, Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 is a good solid wrestling game that makes a great first outing on the Xbox 360. This isn’t going to be the best wrestling game that we will ever see, but for the first wrestling game on the Xbox 360, owners and fans of wrestling are really going to have a lot to enjoy in Smackdown vs. Raw 2007.
WWE Day of Reckoning 2
I must say that I went with my gut instinct and although Day of Reckoning 2 is a solid game I just felt like there was something that was needed in this game, maybe a better story mode that would take this game to the top. If you are a Gamecube owner and enjoy wrestling games then there is no reason why you wouldn’t want to pick up this game as not only is it one of your only choices but it’s a great choice at that!
WWE Wrestlemania 21
WWE Wrestlemania 21 is a game that easily had the most potential out of all the WWE games released in the past year or two. But it seems the developers concentrated most of their efforts in the visual aspects, trying to sugar-coat a flawed and unplayable game. Thus, we are left with a wrestling game that I can’t even recommend to for a system that is desperate for a wrestling game.
Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes The Neighborhood
Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes the Neighborhood makes some strides in the right direction, but not anywhere near as it needed to be. This is a game that I simply can’t recommend at all, due to its many flaws and the quantity of other great fighting/wrestling games already on the market today.
The game does have some decent wrestling sequences but for the most part this game is just to into the sex appeal and not enough into the actually game itself. I would have to say this game is nothing more then a rental, with very limited replay value you really won’t need to keep this game in your PS2.
Backyard Wrestling: Don't Try This at Home
Backyard Wrestling is one of those games that really ended up disappointing me. When Eidos first started talking about this one I had some high hopes, but unfortunately the execution for the game was just not all there. I praise Eidos for taking a chance with the idea, but unfortunately I really just can’t see myself recommending this one to anyone because there are just better alternatives out there.
WWE Raw 2
WWE Raw 2 has a lot going for it, but the gameplay fails to do anything fast or fun. With that being said if you are stuck with the Xbox and looking for a wrestling game, you will probably be able to deal with Raw 2 until the next edition comes out, for everyone else; the game is probably worth a rental at the most.
WWE WrestleMania XIX
Wrestlemania XIX has its ups and downs, and unfortunately there isn’t that last up to get this game to be a top notch wrestling title. With all the basics down, you can probably expect Yukes’ next attempt to be pretty good. As for now I would just rent this one, because the game doesn’t have the necessary replay value to hook me in past the rental period.
WWE WrestleMania X8
With WWE Raw getting the worst of all reviews at present all eyes lie on PS2’s Smackdown! 4 to retain its title and I for one predict that it will be the best of the bunch, no question. For GameCube owners though I would advise the hardcore fans only to buy this game and for the rest of you, just rent it when your mates are round.
