Gears 5 Review

By most metrics — polish, graphics, writing, acting and engaging game play mechanics — Gears 5 is an impressive product for both solo players and competitive or cooperative shooter fans. But moving forward, the series desperately needs to venture into new ways of telling its stories and pacing its encounters.

Destiny 2 Review

2014's Destiny was a polarizing product, confused about its own identity and therefore confusing to consumers. Was it a failed MMORPG or a multiplayer shooter with a bolted-on campaign? Was it a Diablo-esque loot collection game? Was it a new genre? Even after the excellent Taken King expansion/reboot, Destiny remained both a disappointment to many and a favorite to many more.

Superhot

Superhot's time manipulation is a fun mechanic that allows you to play a first person shooter in a way you couldn't elsewhere. Despite a few shortcomings, the game does a superb job of mixing the first person shooter genre and puzzle games into entertaining experience.

Overwatch

I knew I was obsessed with Overwatch when I found an excuse to incorporate it into my job and bought a copy for the PlayStation 4 so I can play with my brother and other friends.

Halo 5: Guardians

Halo 5: Guardians obviously isn’t meant to be played for its by the numbers campaign. If your love for Halo falls strictly within the realm of its multiplayer, then prepare yourself for a grand old time.

Sniper Elite III

Sniper Elite III is a fun game, but it is not necessarily a great one. While the killcam is a unique feature, and it can be sadistically entertaining to watch bullets tear through your enemies, it is really the only thing that separates the game from other generic third person shooters. The open level design and optional objectives allow room for tactical planning and freedom to accomplish your mission in whatever way you see fit, but wonky A.I. and uninspired shooting mechanics can ruin a good run. It's worth the price tag for the borderline ridiculous long-range shots you can pull off, but the campaign isn't so good that I'd want to play through it a second time right away.
