From top to bottom, Alaska fails to inspire any sense of wonder, mystery, or excitement. That last one might sound strange - how can life in the Alaskan wilderness be “fun?” It kind of isn't and instead of trying to find your own fun out of the mundane, the developers at Wreck Tangle Games trap you inside a fiercely linear story punctuated by the most oddly designed mini-games I have ever experienced.
Minecraft Story Mode Season 2: Episode 5 - Above and Beyond Review
Not only has the story of Jesse and his friends completely shattered what minor expectations there were, but it has worked its way up near the top of my Telltale list. Season 2’s final episode, Above and Beyond, is a fantastic end to a downright fun series, and I am actually sad to see this one end.
Life Is Strange: Before The Storm Episode 1: Awake Review
Life Is Strange was an episodic adventure game released in 2015 that took me completely by surprise. It came to me after I had grown weary of the format, popularized by the numerous releases from Telltale Games. Instead of adapting a popular media franchise, DONTNOD’s game told an original story about an eighteen-year-old Maxine Caulfield who, out of the blue, was given the power to control time.
There is foreboding presence in the deep, but instead of being pressured or scared, I am just largely annoyed by the glaring flaws in the game design. If one could overlook these frustrating factors, this could be a somewhat enjoyable adventure game with a unique premise and solid puzzles. Unfortunately, these infuriating shortcomings require a great deal of willpower to overlook.
The Little Acre Review
The shortcomings (pun intended) of the game are balanced with its irresistible charm and appeal and ultimately the running time is reduced only to a face value. In the end The Little Acre is a hand-crafted piece of art and I definitely want to see more games from Pewter Games, preferably longer by each outing.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier Parts 1 and 2 Review
Given where Episode 2 leaves us, I am truly looking forward to see where A New Frontier goes. Javier is a charming character with a deep backstory, and they way his family is introduced throughout the past and present leads to an immediate investment in his future. Add in some shady actions on Clementine’s part, as well as the overwhelming desire to keep her around, and I feel that TWD is back on the right track. Telltale continues to impress.
