Stellaris: Console Edition Review
"Civilization in Space" would definitely be my immediate summary of what Stellaris is, and hey, if that sounds like something you need in your life, this may very well be the shortest review you've ever read. "Civ in Space, 4X players are going to have a good time". Done.
Jon Shafer's At the Gates Review
Jon Shafer’s At the Gates is not a mass-market game. It decries the populist and dumbed down direction in which the Civilization franchise has moved, replacing it with a strategy title for the patient player that tolerates a measured pace, likes the challenge of long-range planning, can overlook some bugs, and finds satisfaction in a cerebral, hard-fought victory.
Northgard, a new RTS from Shiro Games, is not about building vast armies of Viking berserkers or fleets of longships or a thriving northern metropolis. Instead, it is a deliberately paced strategy game about the inexorable march of spring to winter and the thousand little ways in which poor planning and hastily made decisions can mean the demise of of struggling little band of villagers.
A very ambitious undertaking, StarDrive has a lot of promise. There's a lot the developer hopes to add, and he plans on supporting the game for the foreseeable future, but the package as it stands is a bit of a hard sell to all but the most patient and driven 4X fans. If you are willing to dig deep, there are some diamonds to be found in this rough. If not, you may want to wait for this package to fill itself out a bit more.
